About
Sandra VanSickle
founder of Cuddlebugs-n-Cocoons
Even at the young age of five, Sandra VanSickle knew what she
wanted –and that was to become a successful designer. Always
mesmerized by her grandmother’s skill and craftiness with
a needle and thread, Sandra yearned to carry on the tradition.
“I remember the time she finally gave in and allowed me
to make a dress for my doll. I was hooked!”
Nearly
fifty years later, Sandra has shifted her talent from creating
clothing to blankets, drapery and bedding. But change is for the
better, for the challenge has only broadened her potential and
shed more light on her creative imagination. Not to mention the
opportunity has given her an excuse to add an extra motherly touch
to her two daughters’ and now four granddaughters’
favorite blankies.
Since
the introduction of Cuddlebugs-n-Cocoons in July
2005, the brand has taken on an enormously credible addition.
“I am extremely blessed to be working with a very talented,
humble man,” Sandra raves, speaking of the popular interior
designer, Edward Walker, of TLC’s “Trading Spaces.”
The two have joined forces and released The
Edward Walker Collection, bedding for tweens and teens through
Cuddlebugs-n-Cocoons.
Aside
from designing these cozy keepsakes, Sandra is also the proud
owner of Sew What’s New, a high-end custom drapery studio
in her hometown of Apex, North Carolina. When Sandra is not designing
and sewing, you may find her cuddling her own cuddle bug grandchildren,
spending time with her family or traveling.
“I
hope I can serve as an inspiration to others. To persevere no
matter where life takes you, no matter what age you may be. The
company, with its many layers, brings me new challenges every
day and I love every step of the journey I am on.”
